Delta Gamma Pay Your Per Capita Dues

Sponsorship

What IS sponsorship?

Sponsorship is Delta Gamma’s process of aiding collegiate chapters in recruiting quality members who are dedicated to the Fraternity for a lifetime.  The process of identifying qualified potential new members (PNM’s) is a responsibility and a privilege that is shared by collegians and alumnae. Therefore, both are encouraged to write a sponsor forms for a qualified PNM who is thought to embrace the values of Delta Gamma.

Why is sponsoring important?

It outlines a PNM’s membership qualifications and provides references that support those qualifications. Additionally, it ensures that Delta Gamma retains its single sex status and continues to recruit women who will help us reach our vision of being the Fraternity that provides the finest and most rewarding membership experience.

The sponsor form lists different types of sponsorship. What do these mean?

Voluntary- you are family, a personal friend or an acquaintance of the woman.

Requested- you are completing a form at the request of a collegiate chapter or a potential new member, but you do not personally know the PNM.

For Information Only- you would like to share some key information about the woman going through recruitment.

How are legacies treated during the sponsorship/recruitment process?

A legacy is a sister, daughter, granddaughter or great-granddaughter of a member of Delta Gamma, including the step version of each of these relations. Legacies are given careful consideration during recruitment, but it is the chapter’s responsibility to make selections that best match their needs. All Delta Gamma alumnae members with a legacy are encouraged to submit a sponsor form to the collegiate chapter of interest as the Fraternity database does not track legacies.

Do I have to know the woman in order to sponsor her?

NO! Personal acquaintance with the PNM is not required.   In fact, most sponsor forms are written for PNMs that are unknown to the sponsor. See the question below for other sources of information who can be used.

I’d love to help, but I am not sure how to gather information!

If you have connections to family members, neighbors, male or female classmates, high school teachers, school administrators, etc. then you are well on your way to having the information needed! Stephanie Williford, previous sponsorship chairperson, recommends corroborating information received with at least two sources.  The late Sue Shivers, who was a writer of numerous sponsorship forms over the years, love to speak to male peers of the woman she was recruiting; she said that they never failed to give you an accurate picture of a woman’s character, without all the drama! ;)

What information do I need to sponsor a PNM?

REQUIRED:

First and last name

City and State of residence

5 Points of Membership Star

                        Character

                        Interests/Talents

                        Education/Scholarship

                        Personal Development

                        Activities/Honors

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Ability to meet financial obligations of sorority membership

            Topics of interest

Other known Greek affiliations (e.g. triple Tri Delta legacy on maternal side, mother is a
Kappa Delta but PNM is open to her own search, etc.)

**Occasionally, there are times when a woman cannot be recommended as a potential new member of Delta Gamma. There is a box to check for this option. You do not have to specify in writing why this woman may not be a great fit for Delta Gamma; however, the chapter advisor may contact you for further information.

How do I submit the completed sponsorship form?

An electronic copy of the sponsorship form can be obtained online at deltagamma.org in the “library” (login required for access) or by emailing dgmobilealumnae@gmail.com. A paper copy of the form can often be found in the Anchora. Completed forms can be sent to the sponsorship committee members, emailed to dgmobilealumnae@gmail.com, or sent directly to the Delta Gamma collegiate recruitment records director at the college of attendance. The Mobile Area Alumnae Association prefers that the forms be sent directly to us for forwarding, as we have to collect information about the number of forms sent. If you prefer to send your forms to the collegiate chapter directly, we respectfully ask that you send an email to dgmobilealumnae@gmail.com including the names of the women you have completed forms for and the college of attendance.

Thank you for taking the time to read these questions! We hope they have increased your knowledge and understanding of this important recruitment process. If you have any additional questions, comments, or would like to become more involved with sponsorship, please send an email to dgmobilealumnae@gmail.com.
